US Fights UN on Homosexuality

Yes, I'm back...trips were wonderful, amazing, blah blah blah...life is good...

What got me to start posting again (and yes, I'm going to start posting regularly again) is that once again we have made ourselves look like idiots to the rest of the civilized world.

The UN has drafted a declaration that would decriminalize homosexuality all over the world (in all UN member countries at least.) We are the only Western country not to sign it. All of Europe, some Asian countries, Australia, and even Mexico (MEXICO!!) have signed it. Not us.

The concern is that it goes against states' rights...um, what happened to human rights. We're more willing to uphold the rights of a state over the rights of a person and we're willing to do it in front of the entire world!

My hair (what little there is) is standing on end!

It's such BULLSHIT, defending the right of states to discriminate in the areas of housing etc, and to hide behind the military's right to legally discriminate. It wasn't so long ago, the US felt the same way about race, but we seem to have corrected that from a legal standpoint. HUMAN RIGHTS ARE THE ISSUE, not State's Rights. When will they get a fucking clue?

i'm so lucky to live in a country that fights to uphold my right to hate and discriminate against you.

if we took the time to celebrate life and the differences between each other that binds us together we might not have the time or inclination to kill each other. now that's a world i just can't imagine living in.
